AG Real Estate is proud to announce that today, Monday March 29, 2021, the contract for the 182nd school has been signed. This latest transaction was signed by DBFM (a public-private partnership between AG Real Estate, BNP Paribas Fortis and the Flemish government, represented by School Invest NV and AGION - Agency for Infrastructure in Education) and the school Hasp-O Centrum in Sint-Truiden. This project consists of a new campus of 18,000 m² to replace and centralise a large part of the current old campuses of the Katholieke Centrumscholen & Technicum.
The new school will contain classrooms adapted to the different types of educational courses, but also an auditorium, laboratories, a media library, a study room, workshop classrooms and a warehouse, staff rooms, management offices, a sports hall and multipurpose rooms. The surrounding area, such as covered playgrounds, open playgrounds, bicycle storage and parking areas, is also part of the project. The construction of this ambitious project by THV Vanderstraeten-Houden will start on 19 April. Completion is scheduled for February 18, 2023.
"What was once a dream, later seemed an impossible task, but 10 years ago was finally tackled as an enormous challenge by a passionate, committed, eager to learn and experienced team, has today become reality: all school construction projects, small or large, new construction or renovation, inner or outer city, low-energy or passive construction... will be built after an intensive and sometimes chaotic journey with various partners from all sectors. Thanks to everyone for the cooperation and mutual trust. We look forward with equal enthusiasm to a follow-up story in Flanders, or elsewhere in the country," says Philippe Monserez, Programme Director Scholen van Morgen at AG Real Estate.
Serge Fautré, CEO of AG Real Estate, continues: "Together with AG Insurance, AG Real Estate is a loyal and reliable partner of the federal, regional and local governments, to prepare our society for the future in an efficient and sustainable way through projects and private-public partnerships. The results of the Schools of Tomorrow programme are proof of our commitment to deliver on our promises in all circumstances. We are more than ready to assist governments with our expertise, financial resources and drive to tackle the challenges of tomorrow and the day after."
As a reminder, "Scholen van Morgen" is an initiative of the Flemish Government and consists of a private-public partnership without equal within Europe regarding school infrastructure. The programme includes the design, construction and maintenance over a period of 30 years of 182 schools, with a total surface area of more than 700,000 m², spread across the whole of Flanders and, moreover, across all educational organisations. Today, 168 modern and energy-efficient school projects (more than 600,000 m²) are in use, to the great satisfaction of 133,000 pupils, teachers, school boards and administrations. 13 projects are under construction, 10 of which will be completed in 2021.
