An artistic vision at the new courthouse in Namur

With the aim of adding an aesthetic dimension to the building site of the new courthouse in Namur and reducing its urban impact on residents, AG Real Estate has called upon regional artistic collective Drash to mark the start of the project and reflect the positive development of the city of Namur.

With the aim of adding an aesthetic dimension to the building site of the new courthouse in Namur and reducing its urban impact on residents, AG Real Estate has called upon regional artistic collective Drash to mark the start of the project and reflect the positive development of the city of Namur.

AG Real Estate is committed to working hand-in-hand with the public partners with which it operates. It felt it was essential to consider the visual impact that such a major site would have on the urban landscape. Quentin Dupuis, Project Manager Development confirms: “We wanted a quality visual treatment in keeping with this development project in the neighbourhood. An illustration of our constructive dialogue with the project stakeholders. A thought-provoking and stimulating work of art that everyone can identify with."

A quality vision to foster dialogue

The key focus that AG Real Estate has conveyed to Drash is respect for the values of the various stakeholders in the project. These include the values of the Belgian Federal State (a civil service close to the public, attentive to the population, looking resolutely towards the future), those of the Belgian justice service (respect, integrity, professionalism, etc.) and those of the City of Namur (Innovative, cultural, generous, attractive).

The idea is to offer the public a differentiated and integrated vision of graffiti art. The eye of the passer-by is drawn along all the site's safety hoardings, in a whirlwind of colours, by the succession of drawings and words selected by the artists' collective, all linked with the above-mentioned values. Démosthène Stellas, spokesperson for Drash, adds: “Our project concept tells a story in the form of a panorama: from the past towards the future. Overall, the illustration of the fresco begins with “engraving” type lines and evolves into a more modern universe symbolising the positive development of the city of Namur, looking decisively towards the future. The strong, symbolic words we have used bring home the values of the Justice service and the City of Namur”.

Namur: innovation and culture

The construction of the new courthouse is part of a broader programme of quality urban development being conducted by the City of Namur. It will complement the upgrade of the ’Casernes’ quarter and will allow the various players operating there to create a real new district offering a variety of residential, cultural, professional and social functions.
