On Tuesday, 29 September 2020, Mr Koen Geens, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, in charge of the Buildings Agency, and Minister of European Affairs, conducted the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction site of the new Namur Courthouse in the presence of Mr David Clarinval, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget and Civil Service, in charge of the National Lottery and of Science Policy.

The future 34,600 m² complex falls within an environmentally friendly approach and will meet high energy performance criteria. It will be built on the former site of the “Casernes Léopold” by AG Real Estate, who was awarded the contract for the financing, redesign, construction and commissioning of the Courthouse on July 8.

The objective is to deliver the entire construction in the 36 months following the notice to proceed. The relocation of the departments of the FPS Justice to the new building is planned for 2023. The Belgian Buildings Agency will sign an 18 year-lease with an option to purchase.

“I am delighted to be able to launch the start of the construction of the new Namur Courthouse. This modern, sustainable and secure building will provide the jurisdictions of Namur with a central and unique accommodation that will bring together all the services of Justice of Namur as well as the criminal justice chain of Dinant. “, declared Koen Geens, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, in charge of the Buildings Agency.

“I am pleased to have had the opportunity to lay the first stone of this new Courthouse this Tuesday. Its construction has now begun, which will eventually be very beneficial to the judicial staff as well as to the citizens of the regions of Namur and Dinant. Within three years, the capital of Wallonia will finally be provided with modern, secure and functional premises worthy of the 21st Century. This can only contribute to the serenity at work and of the debates that will soon be held within those walls that are about to be built”, stated David Clarinval, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget and Civil Service, in charge of the National Lottery and of Science Policy.

To accompany them in the execution of this project, AG Real Estate will be assisted by two trusted partners: CIT Blaton and BPC (one of the subsidiaries of CFE).

“This public-private partnership reaffirms our expertise in the field of DBFM (Design, Build, Finance & Maintain). We hope that this development will convince the other public services that require modern and reliable renovation solutions to turn to AG Real Estate again in the future. Now more than ever, our aim is to walk alongside the public authorities to redesign the city of tomorrow together to address its occupants’ needs”, stated Serge Fautré, Chief Executive Officer at AG Real Estate.
