Sustainable neighbourhood Samaya in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve: new partnership between BPI Real Estate and AG Real Estate

AG Real Estate Corporate

Project developers BPI Real Estate and AG Real Estate Development have signed an agreement to develop the new sustainable neighbourhood Samaya in Ottignies/Louvain-la-Neuve.

On 23 December 2021, the two project developers signed a deal in which BPI Real Estate sold AG Real Estate 50% of the site and a 50% share in project vehicle “Samaya Development NV”. The present industrial site, occupying approx. 11 hectares, was the former location of the company Benelmat and will be upgraded into a hybrid real-estate project including new apartments, shops and other services that will meet the needs of the neighbourhood.

Samaya: revival of an industrial site to a green neighbourhood

BPI Real Estate and AG Real Estate plan to develop the Samaya neighbourhood into a new station area that will be exemplary for the region. The programme also includes large-scale investments in sustainability by excluding the use of fossil fuels, taking the most extensive greening measures and prioritising soft mobility. In that context, new connecting routes will be developed for bicycles, scooters and other environmentally friendly modes of transport between the station and adjacent neighbourhoods.

On-site progress The initial remediation work has since been initiated at the present site and the existing buildings have been demolished. The demolition resulted in almost 36,000 tonnes of material, all of which will be recycled at the site. BPI Real Estate and AG Real Estate hope to be able to make a start with the actual building work in the summer of 2022.
